An absolute marvel of coral carving skill, this dainty and timeless coral necklace dates back to around the 1810s-1820s. Made of deep orange Mediterranean coral, carved into what is commonly called a "rolling pin" or "cotton reel" shape, this style of necklace was incredibly fashionable at the start of the 19th century. Each and every tiny coral bead is hand carved into its unique shape, and flared at the ends, so that it sits perfectly between its neighboring beads. This necklace has its beads graduated, from small at the ends to larger in the center, and fastens with an elegant 8-sided barrel clasp, made of 10k gold.
The necklace measures 17" long, with the smallest beads measuring approximately 1/8" long and the largest measuring approximately 1/4" long. The necklace is in excellent condition, and looks to have been restrung sometime in the recent past.
