This unbelievable beauty sits right at the transitional period between the Victorian era and the Edwardian era, between Belle Epoque and Art Nouveau. Dramatic, feminine, and beautifully made, this incredible plaque/navette ring is made out of silver-topped gold, a technique in which sheets of silver are bonded to an inner layer of gold using heat and pressure. With time and wear, the silver eventually reveals the inner layer of gold and creates a romantic, warm hue to offset the darkened silver. This ring is set with 25 diamonds- 24 of them are rough rose cuts or table cuts, and the center diamond is a European cut (an early brilliant cut) for added sparkle.
This ring is in excellent condition. There is some thinning to the band, and the lucky owner of this piece may choose to have the band reinforced. I have opted not to, as I did not want to compromise the hallmarks. They are located on the outside center of the band, and bear the Portuguese symbols for silver, 800 gold (19.2k), and an indecipherable maker's mark.
This ring fits a size 6.75, and measures 1.25" tall
