I've come across quite a few "pickets and berries" style coral necklaces- tapered "pickets," in graduated size, strung with round "berry" beads in between. These were very popular from the mid 19th century to the early 20th. Bracelets made in this style seem to be far less common, and picket and berry jewelry made of soft salmon pink coral seems to be almost impossible to find, making this bracelet especially unique. With 32 tapered "pickets," arranged in graduating size with the longest in the center, it's a prime example of the level of quality and craftsmanship coming out of Italian coral workshops during the 19th century. Not only are the colors of all beads perfectly matched, but the graduated size of the pickets required extra labor and attention. This beautiful bracelet is also a very wearable size, by modern standards, measuring 7.5" long.
This bracelet is in very good condition. There is one small chip to a single picket bead, and the clasp has been replaced. The original clasp would most likely have been a brass spring ring. The current clasp is an antique gold tone/gold fill fishhook clasp, which fastens securely. The bracelet measures 7.5" long, and the largest picket bead is 5/8" tall.
