This hefty, beautifully constructed fancy link chain consists of "torpedo" (also called bow or infinity) links, interspersed with lengths of alternating single and double round links, made of warm, slightly rosy 15k gold. This incredibly impressive chain measures 35" long and an unbelievable 69 grams, and I believe it is a converted Victorian era double Albert pocket watch chain. It currently closes with a more "modern" safety clasp, though I believe this clasp, and the conversion itself, date to the mid 20th century. The clasp is stamped with two sets of letters and numbers (appearing to read "89 VR"), with no gold purity Hallmark. I don't think these marks actually relate to the chain at all, and are likely only relevant to the clasp. Two loops on the ends of torpedo links on the chain are cut/open, which is where I believe the original T-bar/toggle for a pocket watch was removed, along with a decorative fob. I can solder these loops shut by request, but have left them as-is as part of the history of the chain. Because it has a clasp, it can be worn long or doubled. Such heavy, long examples of Victorian era chains are incredibly rare and hard to come by, even with their original hardware removed. I believe this chain dates to the 1880s or 1890s. It is entirely hand fabricated.

Chain is in excellent condition. The necklace measures 35" long. The two cut loops are not noticeable, and do not pose a risk to the chain, though I am happy to solder them shut if requested. The clasp is very secure. The gold has a warm patina- I have not polished this chain, preferring to leave signs of age. The gold has been professionally acid tested, and tests as higher than 14k but lower than 18k. Given its color and age, I believe it is 15k or 16k, but am, conservatively, describing it as 15k.
