Intense orange-red Mediterranean coral beads are gently faceted to catch the light in this antique French necklace, finished with its original, petite engraved 18k gold barrel clasp. These faceted coral beads were popular in France during the 19th century, often worn to ward off bad luck, and the clasp on this necklace bears a tiny French eagle hallmark dating it to between 1838 and 1847. The facets on each bead have been smoothed a bit with time and wear, adding to the coral's glow.
The necklace is in excellent condition, and has been professionally restrung by me.
