This necklace is as stylish and wearable today as it was when it was first made, during the late 1800s. A simple chain is adorned with a graduated fringe of Etruscan/archeological revival style pendants, each evoking the silhouette of an amphora, and set with beautiful paste stones. This necklace is special and rather unusual for two reasons- it is made of gold fill, while every other example I have seen is solid karat gold, and it is set with stones! I have not come across another example of a fringe necklace in this style set with stones. The hand-cut glass paste stones are beautifully bead-set, not glued in, and their sizes are graduated to match the pendants. The pendants have the warm, deep yellow bloom of high karat gold, while the chain is a softer rosy hue. It fastens with a petite barrel clasp.
Necklace measures 17" along the chain, with the longest pendant measuring 12/16" and the smallest measuring 5/16". It is in very good condition, with a small amount of wear visible at the back edges of bottoms of some of the pendants, not visible from the front.
