There are few pieces of jewelry that so perfectly embody the trends of their era as the late Victorian buckle bracelet. A symbol of commitment, fidelity, and affection, these beautiful bracelets were the statement bangles of their day. This striking example dates back to 1882, a time when this trend was truly starting to take off, and is hand engraved with a delightfully indicate ivy pattern- another symbol of commitment, due to its tendency to cling. Constructed of sterling silver, with a hinged clasp, it is shaped in a comfortable oval, which prevents the buckle design from spinning or ending up at the inside of the wrist.
The bracelet is stamped with British hallmarks- one for silver, one for the city of origin (Birmingham), and a date stamp that reliably dates it to the year 1882. There is minor wear, especially to one side of the buckle detail on the bracelet, which seems to indicate that the original wearer had it stacked with other bracelets.
Weighs just over 42 grams, and measures 2.5" across the widest part of the oval.
