Antique Victorian Old Mine Cut Diamond Solitaire Ring

Old mine cut diamonds have so much depth, character, and such a unique beauty that they are usually able to charm even the most staunch diamond skeptics. Hailing from a time before precision cutting, before there was a push to maximize the intense sparkle of every brilliant cut diamond to the point of making them look sharp and cold, old mine cuts took the raw material of a diamond crystal and worked with the natural contours and colors to create something magical. Case in point- this beautiful, simple, perfect solitaire ring. Dating to the late 1800s, it's both timeless, and so distinctly from another time. Made of buttery, rosy 18k gold and set with a slightly square, cushion shaped mine cut diamond (set horizontally instead of vertically), it's the sort of ring that exudes a quiet elegance, until the light hits it just right and it lights up like a disco ball. The stone itself is what I would call a perfect mine cut- measuring 4mm by 3.7mm, it has broad, chunky facets, slightly rounded edges, a high crown and deep pavilion (old mine cuts are taller than modern brilliants), and a flat culet (with the bottom of the diamond tapering to a single flat facet underneath, instead of a point). While this stone has not been evaluated by a gemologist, I can confidently say that it weighs approximately 0.3 carats, with a fantastic color that has just the slightest hint of warmth. It is eye clean, requiring magnification to see the light feathery inclusions within. This would make an excellent engagement ring!

This ring is in excellent condition. There are minor surface scratches, appropriate for its age. I am happy to polish the ring by request, but am leaving it in its original condition otherwise.
