This wide, beautifully engraved hinged bangle would have looked incredibly chic on the fitted sleeve of a woman during the 1880s or 1890s. It is ornamented with raised geometric cartouches filled with delicately engraved floral patterns- roses in the center, ivy leaves on the outer edges. It is a stunning example of the Aesthetic Movement that had its grip on fashion and trends during this period, with its use of naturalistic motifs and Japanese influence.
This bangle measures 1.5" wide, and 2.25" across its widest point. It is in great shape for its age, with minor dings and scratches appropriate for a silver bracelet that is nearly a century and a half old. It was clearly worn and loved, and very well cared for. It is hallmarked "sterling," and the lack of British hallmarks leads me to believe this was American made.
