During the height of the turquoise craze of the 19th century, one of the most popular ways to use the stone was to set small cabochons in pave, or bead, settings. This allowed multiple sizes and colors of turquoise to be set in dense clusters, showcasing the diversity of the stone. This lovely little example of a Victorian era turquoise pave heart locket is, unfortunately, a slightly wounded dove- some of the turquoise cabochons are chipped, and the gilding applied to the silver has all but worn off in places. Despite this, it is a charming and delightful example of Victorian era sentimental jewelry, and even comes with its own surprise- a sweet little portrait of a lady, set against an antique bit of crepe paper, peers out from her tiny locket window.
The locket measures 0.75" tall without the bail, and the bail measures 0.25". It is made of gilt silver. There are small chips to some of the turquoise cabochons, dents to the back of the locket, and some characters scratched inside the locket, though these may be from production and not later additions. The locket is priced with condition in mind.
