An ancient symbol, the love knot, or lover's knot, represents an unbreakable bond between lovers. Variations of this theme can be traced back to at least Ancient Greece, when Hercules knots were worn as a symbol of matrimony and commitment. The love knot was also very popular during the Victorian era, when all manner of sentimental symbolism was ubiquitous in jewelry. This pair of silver and gold earrings is formed in the shape of a sterling love knot, from which are suspended antique Victorian Mediterranean coral beads, themselves symbolizing good fortune and vitality.
