I absolutely adore this style of necklace, so popular from the 1920s to the 1940s. Usually set with glass (Czech or Vauxhall), with large geometric stones strung together in a manner reminiscent of Georgian era riviere necklaces, they represent a shift towards a "modern" approach to jewelry, with affordable but eye-catching pieces being made of brass and silver settings. Many of these necklaces embody the burgeoning art deco aesthetic, but this beautiful and bright pansy necklace seems to be straddling two trends. The stepped, pyramid shaped pink glass cabochons (looking almost exactly like watermelon Jolly Rancher candy), set in open-back serrated bezels, are certainly speaking the visual language of art deco. It's the naturalistic cast silver pansies, set with pink glass stones in serrated bezels, that make this necklace both striking, and an outlier in its category. To further highlight the organic feel of the pansies, the small round stones vary in color, from medium to dark pink. This is truly an exceptional example of the transition from art deco to naturalistic, organic styles during the 1930s.

This necklace is in great condition. It has no hallmarks, but tests as at least 800 silver. The only "flaw" is that the clasp has been replaced. It most likely would have originally had a round spring ring clasp. All stones are in perfect condition, with no chips or cracks. The necklace measures 15", and is intended to be worn as a choker or collar length necklace. A silver extender chain can be added to each end, by request. Please contact me if you would like to have an extension added.
