This wonderfully whimsical opal ring is unlike anything I have ever seen before! Instead of the traditional prong or bezel set cabochons, this ring is set with three half-drilled opal orbs or spheres, set onto posts. They look like three tiny crystal balls, ready to tell your fortune. It is a bit difficult for me to pin down their age, as they are so unusual. Stylistically, this type of triple opal ring was very popular during the 1910s, but I think this may even be as new as 1950s. The clean lines, spare details, and unusual construction make it very hard to be sure. The opals have blue-green flash, with some orange, red, and pink showing up in certain light. The center opal sparkles like a disco ball, while the side opals are a bit more subdued.
This ring fits a size 8. It seems to have been sized at some point, and the band is a bit more on the oval side. It is stamped with a hallmark for 14k, and a maker's mark- BL. It is in very good condition, especially for such a fragile stone. There is some wear to the opal spheres that makes them a tiny bit less spherical, and the spot where the ring has been sized has had a thinner portion of band added, but it is in wonderfully wearable condition, in a great size!
