The mid 20th century saw a resurgence of the Victorian era buckle bracelet trend, predominantly in England. This beautifully detailed and engraved example, dating to 1963, is a beautiful and clever take on the classic style. Made with a hinged front portion that uses the buckle as its actual clasp, it is engraved in a style reminiscent of the 1890s, with cross-hatched and star patterns on a florentine texture background.
The bracelet shape is an asymmetrical oval- I do not believe this is bent out of shape, but rather, the necessary shape for the hinge mechanism to function. It measures 2.5" across, and is stamped with full British hallmarks for sterling silver, Birmingham (the city where it was assayed), the date stamp for 1963, and the maker's mark- B Ltd.
This bracelet is in excellent condition, with some scuffs and wear appropriate for its age.
